Andrew O’Hagan, Caledonian Road

Friday 12th April, 7.30pm–8.45pm

Venue: Fullarton Connexions, Church Street, Irvine KA12 8PE

Tidelines is delighted to be hosting one of just a handful of Scottish dates with author Andrew O’Hagan to mark the publication of his hotly anticipated new novel, Caledonian Road.

For his Irvine event, Andrew will be interviewed by broadcaster, journalist and author Kirsty Wark.

After the success of the award-winning Mayflies comes Andrew O’Hagan’s irresistible, unputdownable, state-of-the-nation novel – the story of one man’s epic fall from grace. Caledonian Road sees the worlds of a celebrated London professor and his young, provocative student disastrously collide in a gripping tale of power, privilege and the hypocrisy of the liberal elite. You can find out more about Caledonian Road here.

‘I loved this novel . . . It felt like I hurled myself off a skyscraper called London, and as I fell I managed to snatch a precious glimpse into each different apartment and life’ – Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown

Copies of the book will be for sale at the event from our partners Waterstones, Ayr, and Andrew will be available for book signing afterwards.

Tickets: £10

Scrievin & Scran: An Evening of Spoken Word

Friday 26th January, 7:30–9.45pm

Venue: The Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine, North Ayrshire KA12 8PZ

Chase away those January blues with this popular warming evening of spoken word (a half-time hot pie included in your ticket*).

This year, we’re delighted to have fabulous local actor, writer and director Steven Duffy as our host for the evening. Steven is a well-kent face on Scottish screen, with appearances in everything from Casualty to Taggart, as well as being a regular in radio dramas and on stages across the UK. Locally he is one of the Directors of Poetic Justice (the group behind ‘Ravensfest’). Steven also ran the Harbour Arts Centre Community Theatre group from 2014-2016.  We are also delighted to have a guest appearance from Ayrshire-based Gaelic poet and current An Comunn Gàidhealach Bard, Niall O’Gallagher, bringing a sprinkling of Gaelic magic to the evening.

With contributions from no less than TEN local writers, all bravely stepping forward to the mic to share their own work in the evening’s open spots, you can expect an evening of wit, wisdom, and definitely the odd surprise. A good night out guaranteed!

‘The line-up was brilliant! Pies tasty!’ (audience feedback 2023)
